The last lake - Son Kul

The last lake - Son Kul
The largest lake in Naryn area is Lake Song-Kul, lying at 3016 meters amongst steppe vegetation. It is 29 km long, 18 km across and 13 meters deep. The lake is home to countless wild geese, ducks and other waterfowl. It is one of the loveliest spots in Kyrgyzstan; surrounded by alternating white peaks. Staying on the shore you can easily count the sheep on the opposite side of the lake. The lake's color changes from violet to dark blue to pink, depending on the time of day and the weather. There are no solid buildings in this area - shepherds come here in the mid of June and stay with their livestock all summer long.
The road to Song Kul winds through mountainous terrain until it seems to disappear into the skies. This is probably why Song Kul is translated from Kyrgyz as the last lake. There is a lot of legends about the lake. During the trek you will camp in tent beneath crystal clear skies in remote, beautiful locations, listening to the legends and enjoy the camaraderie of a blazing campfire
